Marble kitchen bench tops
There's no doubt that marble is a beautiful addition to nay home. Its luxurious look and wide range of colours mean that there is sure to be the right marble for any space. But, is it really the best option for your kitchen?
Marble bench top dos and don'ts
While its not completely unfeasible to have marble bench tops in your kitchen, we do offer a word of caution. First, it is not as durable as other materials such as granite, timber or engineered stone. It's more porous than other stone, so it requires re-sealing regularly. Failing to re-seal marble can lead to it becoming stained and scratch more easily.
Marble is also not as heat resistant as other stone materials, so take care not to place hot pans directly onto the surface. It can also crack or chip much more easily than it's material counterparts.
Be aware also that when you order marble, what turns up might vary from the sample in the showroom. It's also a great idea to order all the marble you need in the one shipment, because if you need to order more later it might not match what you already have.
So what's the upside of marble?
Well, aside from being beautiful, marble really isn't the best choice for your kitchen bench tops, and is really best left to the bathroom. It's not a cheap option, either, so if it runs the real risk of being damaged easily or being high maintenance, then it really doesn't make much sense to choose it over the sturdier options.
Having said that, if it's treated with the necessary good care, marble is a beautiful stone and can add many hours of pleasure just by its elegant look and feel.
